Floor Pad Maintenance
Floor pads may seem like a simple and straight forward product to use, but there are some things you may not know that will help you get the most out of your pads and your floors.
It goes without saying that a dirty floor should never be burnished because you will buff the dirt into the coating. However, no matter how clean a floor is, during buffing the buff pad will fill up with dust particles. If a pad is not being turned over and cleaned as indicated below, the pad will fill up completely with dust and small, hard particles will appear on the pad. These hard particles will create scratches in the film and consequently damage the coating.
Therefore every pad should be inspected at least every hour of buffing on wear and tear, trapped foreign objects, dirt build-up, burned polish residue etc. We recommend you follow these procedures:
- Use a new pad and burnish for a maximum of one hour.
- Turn pad over and burnish for a maximum of another hour.
- Remove pad and install new pad and proceed as indicated.
- After you have finished buffing, clean used pads by using either the middle of a scrub pad or brush to remove hard particles of the buff pad(s). Rinse the pad(s) thoroughly with water. Hang the pad(s) in order to let them dry thoroughly.
- DO NOT USE PADS WITH A THICKNESS OF LESS THAN HALF OF THEIR ORIGINAL THICKNESS
By following these procedures you can expect longer use out of your pads, better burnishing results and less dust creation.
Getting the best out of your floor pads
Here are some trouble shooting tips for when using floor pads.
| PROBABLE CAUSE: | SOLUTION: |
| Your buff pad is dirty | Cleaning procedure probably need to be improved. Check cleaner dilution rates being utilized – too little or too much cleaner may be used. Check scrubbing pads – are they the right ones (color) for the job? Check the performance of your scrubber. |
| There are foreign objects attached to the pad. | Increase your mopping procedure and/or method. |
| There are burned polish particles in the pad. | Do not burnish for at least 12 hours after initial application and after deep scrub/recoat application. Preferably wait for 24 hours.
Always make sure floor is completely dry after cleaning/washing maintenance. Floor should dry for at least 30 minutes. Water does soften any film and the drying process is therefore very important. Is the right cleaner and/or maintainer dilution being utilised? Remember to buff every time a maintainer has been utilized. |
